THE SEASON

Yes, it is August no more and the Tribe come a calling to C-Ville Saturday evening. There is an abundancy of nerves, optimism, 2008 hangover induced pessimism all lingering around the UVa faithful. Yet, I'm brimming with anticipation. As the past several years have indicated, all it takes is one year to turn things around. It can happen anywhere in the country ... so why not C-Ville? Time will tell ... Meanwhile, Let's get this party started. Grab your PBR's and follow the Quest.

  1. watching NC State v. South Carolina ... Could the Pack be overrated or have they reverted back to the Amato-esque discipline standards??

    The Season is here!!

  2. Too tired to really make much commentary but this, all we can do is put the game behind us and look forward to next week. Yes, that was extremely painful to experience in person. But, in reality, this is a long season, the team (the players) deserve our support. Onward to TCU ... anything can happen!

  3. Life keeps moving forward, therefore if we dwell upon the 7 turnover debacle against a 1-AA team, then we will stay mired in the quagmire of complacency. Time to reach down and find out what you are truly made of. Redemption is still the word and time to let it play out. After all, we have been here before. Who is ready for 6 straight??

  4. could redemption still be feasible? time will tell? will it be set in motion this Saturday? Only the good Lord knows. All I do know is that I will be there ...

  5. If life was easy then it would all be boring. Good only comes from rising up out of the midst of bad. But, you have to believe as the starting point. Take each moment as your chance to seize it. Why not this week? Why not start with TCU?

  6. I am definitely looking at this season being a true test. Yes, right now, I am very frustrated to be 0-2 and it appears as though it will only get tougher. I hear from my friends and many observers that this season is emphatically lost and we will not win a game. I would like to think that is not the case. I believe the talent is there, contrary to what I am hearing. I believe this thing can come together quickly. However, it needs to happen soon! Meanwhile, the quest marches on to Mississippi!

  8. If I did not have faith, I would not be travelling this weekend. Perhaps, this is where Sewell puts it together and our Freshmen (Smith and Jones) break out? Perhaps, we will see the old Mikell? We know the defense will be ready, now is the time ... see you in Hattiesburg!

  9. I think is it safe to say at this point of the season a 0-3 record is disapppointing. Given the way things have bounced and appeared, the prognosticators from the pre-season are harping up their "I told you so moments." With my head rooted in reality and my heart having a bit of wishful thinking, I ponder what has happened so far. First, I believe this team can compete and is capable of winning every game they play. Those thoughts have not changed.

Here are some thoughts as September wraps up for the Hoos:

    1) As disappointing as the 0-3 start is, in reality, given the personnel lost last year and the youth playing this year, is it that far off from expectations (William and Mary should have been a win) but TCU is an excellent veteran football team and Southern Miss was going to be a battle (they also had many returning offensive players). The true disappointment is that after the games have been played, good ole hindsight believes we should be 2-1. Nevertheless, October is a new month and there is plenty of improvement from they offensive play at Southern Miss to look optimistically to conference play.

    2) Offensive scheme appears to be developing irrespective of the William and Mary / TCU debacles. Perhaps it started at the end of the TCU game. Granted, there still is a was to go, but now we know we can move the ball and score alot of points. Maybe the coaches should throw some wrinkles with a Wildcat change up (provided Hall is healthy).

    3) C-Ville is ripe with alot of pessimissim right now. I believe much of that is warranted. As a fan, it is frustrating to see a team who you want nothing more than to be dominant in football (like our instate rival) and we seem to not be getting there. In fact, it seems we are so close to it, but then again yet so far. In college football, fans cannot handle prolonged periods of "almost being there." Success should flow on an expedited lineal progression to satisfy the whims of fans. Therefore, this year so far as marked a truly high point of disdain for the UVa fans. However, we must be cognizant of the fact, we are the fans and we are not out there playing. Being a successful college athlete is easier said than done.

    4) For me personally, the quest has been a moderate rollercoaster. Yes, the losses have hurt and it seems after Southern Miss, the sting hurts longer and longer, but the OVERALL ASPECTS of the CAVALIERQUEST are a success. I am experiencing football and fandom from various viewpoints and there is still much left to accomplish. I hope and pray the wins will accommodate the remaining journey.

    5) October could shape up nicely for us. It just takes one to get us started and UNC is perfect place to get it going. Groh owns Davis!! Going for 4 straight against the Heels.

I KNOW THIS TEAM WILL NOT LOSE EVERYGAME THIS YEAR AND THEIR HEART WILL FIND SUCCCESSES THIS YEAR.

Simply put, we enter conference play with a clean slate ... we can still win the ACC!

  10. The word coming out yesterday is Freshman tailback Dominique Wallace is out of the season with a foot injury. That is most unfortunate for Wallace, he was making great strides and has a bright future ahead of him.

Someone else will have to step up. This is exactly what happens in College Football. In the midst of all the negativity surrounding C-ville, I say ... Let it play out. Let the team play, give them a chance. As a season ticket holder, I am immensely disappointed about the start of the season! Yes, but there is much football still to be played.

This weeks bye week will be much needed.

  11. There is alot of frustration on the bye week. Much of me would love to see a game to hopefully get off the losing streak, but reality tells me the rest is good. Therefore, the only thing I can ponder is the "other" football games. Much of the UVa discussion centers on the doom and gloom and imminent predicted exit of our head coach. All I want to see is one victory ... starting at UNC, then onward to Indiana, then to Maryland ... so on an so forth.

Victory can cure all ailes. I know this team has it in them!

  12. October will hopefully bring forth a new beginning. Yes, there is rampant pessimism in C-ville and amongst the alumni. The negativity is so great, it is quite depressing at times. But we must remember, nothing is decided in the blogishere. It happens on the field. So, therefore, if a collection of players believe they can do it, I like their chances.

A lot has been made of the UNC program and how Butch Davis is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I would agree the UNC football program has made strides under Davis with recruiting and development. But, they must still beat Al Groh.

It has already been determined by the bloggers that there will be no turn around for the UVa team this year. In fact, the 0-12 number is becoming commonplace. Well, until that actually happens, I will remain optimistic that a turn around can happen.

Optimism is root of what makes college football great.

See you all at Kenan Stadium!

  13. As a Raleigh, NC native, I head home this weekend to school everyone grew up enamored with (the tarheels). Well, as life progresses and maturity sets it, I find myself in Chapel Hill with the backing of best school around, The University of Virginia. Times have been tough these days for UVa football. But, it is the South's Oldest Rivarly and conference play now starts for UVa. The slate is clean and I am ready! Go Hoos!

  14. What can I say? I was ready for this one and I believe this win puts us back on track! Nice to see Al Groh owns Butch Davis!

Go Hoos ... Onward Indiana! The Quest marches on!

  15. It is most rewarding to sit here with my coffee on Monday morning after a victory. September was challenging going 0-3 with all the negativity seeping throughout the blogishere and other media channels. But the team did not relent and they still have a bulk of the season ahead of them! For me, the Quest marches onward ....

See you in C-Ville this weekend!
